Commit a daily random act of kindness

Dad and I were out in the bike last night and saw this message placed haphazardly on the back of a car. You would think that if you truly believed in the cause or political candidate you are passively supporting by sporting a bumper sticker, you would at least take the time to place it correctly, but, hey, what do I know? Anyway, when I saw this particular message, it occurred to me:

“aren’t we setting the standard a bit low?”

Only one a day? Is that the best we can do? Or shouldn’t such acts be such a part of who we are that they occur as naturally as our breathing?

And “random” also seems a bit passive, don’t you think? Like we just need to sit idly by and let such opportunities come to us, rather than always being
actively aware of ways to make a difference?

Make no mistake about it, you CAN make a difference. In the face of such overwhelming strife and contentioness forced on us daily by the media, it’s all too easy for us to be convinced of our little worth, but nothing could be farther from the truth.

You may be thinking, “But I have no ability!”, but I’m addressing you in particular when I say that there is no ability that compares to availability. Your philanthropic actions, both great and small, can set a chain of events in motion that, while you may or may not see the end results, can change the course of nations.

Who would have thought that the simple act of opening the door of an abandoned crate would have the effect that it has? But it so easily could have ended there, a rescued dog and a rescued man, forever and ever, amen. Make no mistake about it, I love a happy ending as much as the next girl, but I felt from the very beginning that I had a mission to fulfill.

Now my former crate is now my pulpit, and yours can be the same. Think outside the box; go forth today and make a difference, not just once but over and over, until such actions come as freely to you as charking and flouncing do to me.
