Dad here; Charlie’s sprawled out on Casa del Whackos’ equivalent of the Iron Throne, my recliner, so I’m using the relative lull in the madness to reclaim the iPad.
When Zach and I first found Charlie in the crate, I was initially very concerned that she was infected with the mange, and would spread it to the other inmates at the Casa; this fear was unfounded, as the excessive hair loss was due to extreme malnutrition. Stevie had her issues with ticks, Beau with what appeared to be mange, etc, each dog that passes through carrying his/her own set of problems; it’s a testament to mom’s particular skills and peculiar mind set that it doesn’t occur to me that we can’t patch ’em up with a minimum of fuss and money.
When I found this latest pair of bedraggled misfits, I could tell before I caught her that the female had issues, as what I initially thought were spots were circular patches of missing hair. Mom discovered on the web that certain infection fluoresces under ultra violet light, so off we go to pick up a black light, and sure enough, it appears we are dealing with ringworm. Mom has been working diligently to get the situation reversed, but it’s a LOT of work. Help may be on the way from up north(hint in the title of this post), but we will chronicle that development when the time is right.
So, what if I had fully considered the ramifications of bringing Typhoid Lucy home to the Casa; would it have affected my decision to do so? Not a chance, but it does strengthen my resolve to have a war chest in reserve to act quickly in cases like this. Gary has done an absolutely incredible job of setting up the store and the book for this very reason, and has not taken a red cent for his immense efforts. I would suggest that if you need any help with your own particular Web design, he’s your man, as this cat is awesome at what he does, and more importantly, he “gets” what this page is all about.
I saw earlier that someone had posted “if I only had more land, more money, more time, etc, I could make a difference”; that’s a cop out. You CAN make a difference, right now, right where you live, with the resources you have, as meager as you imagine them to be: you will find, as we do, that a way always presents itself.
You just gotta have faith.
Buddhists call it karma, Christians call it sowing and reaping, but what it all boils down to is the immutable law that dictates what you send out, you get back tenfold. I shudder to think what I would have missed if I hadn’t checked that crate on the miserable day back in January.
It is my sincerest prayer that, no matter where you are at on your own road, that you find you own personal Charlie, but before you open your that particular crate,
you just gotta have faith.

Athletes foot fungus cream works really well too. I have always had a black lite handy in the event of round circles on my pets. It glows like a runway landing strip that really pretty green
