Dad here; anyone remember Victor?
Victor was the deadbeat neighbor’s dog, a 140# mix of collie and water buffalo. The idiots kept him fed, but that was about it; mainly they offered him the worse type of abuse that can be afflicted on a pack animal:
Loneliness.
But they sure didn’t like it when Big Vic would hear my motorcycle or car coming up the road, and he would come lumbering
towards the Casa as fast as his massive bulk would allow. When we did the renovations to Oba’s quarters, Vic supervised the workers like he was the walking boss; everybody that visited the Casa had to pay homage to the big oaf.
One night, I woke up to the gust of hot breath; there was a massive head directly above mine. I turned the reading light on to discover that Victor had somehow gained entry to the Casa(probably mom), and he was wanting some lovin’s. So, I gave him some attention, then cut the light off and went back to sleep. The next morning, I wondered which was more strange; that my neighbor’s horse dog was in my bedroom at zero dark thirty, or that I was so blase about it that I just went back to sleep?
Eventually, the neighbors moved away, abandoning Victor for us to care for full time. Well alrighty then, at least we knew that we weren’t having to deal with their passive aggressive BS. Then, one day they came back and loaded Vick up and that was the last time we saw him. Although the Casa stays at perpetual dog overload, it still seems a bit empty without the big ox constantly nosing my hand.
Until Chester. Different neighbor, but same situation. He’s been coming over to hang out with MacDuff for the last few weeks, and last night Mom let him in for a bit. He has his own story as to his origins that I cannot go into at this time, but we’ll see how this whole situation resolves itself as it’s obvious that I have long since lost control of the situation.
